Schedule M Form: What Is It?

A Schedule M is used for tax related purposes. It is used to help working individuals earn a tax credit known as the Making Work Pay credit. This credit can help individuals reduce their taxes by $400, and those filing jointly can reduce their taxes up to $800. The tax credit can only be applied if a Schedule M is filled out and filed with the party's federal tax return.

In order to be eligible for this tax credit, you must have income from employment. Self-employment does not count for the Making Work Pay credit. Your gross wages must also be less than $95,000 for filing singly, or $190,000 for filing jointly. If you can be claimed as a dependent by another party, you are not eligible.

The Schedule M form will help tax filers calculate the amount of credit that they may qualify for. It is important to follow the instructions carefully, as other tax credits may need to be listed on a Schedule M, as they may affect eligibility.
